Acoustics is an exciting area of research with multi-disciplinary studies of sound and vibration phenomena. The research, which includes theoretical, numerical and experimental aspects, undergoes continuing rapid development. This international MSc programme in Engineering Acoustics is offered to Danish and foreign students who want to specialise in acoustics. The acoustic lecture courses offered at DTU cover topics within the broad fields of human response to sound, and acoustic communication systems as well as environmental acoustics, which include the many aspects of engineering noise and vibration control. The education aims to provide the conceptual framework and training in research required for advanced professional work in the fields of:
• Human response to sound, hearing and subjective effects
• Transducer technology, e.g., loudspeakers, microphones and hydrophones
• Sound recording and sound reproduction systems
• Acoustic design of enclosures, rooms, auditoria and concert halls
• Out-door sound transmission and design of noise abatement systems
• Noise control and sound quality in buildings and in public spaces
• Vibration and noise control in transportation vehicles
• Noise control of machinery and industrial plants
The student can specialise either in human response to sound, or acoustic communication systems, or in environmental acoustics on aspects of noise and vibration control. DTU Electrical Engineering, Acoustic Technology, offers the majority of the courses that the student has to pass.
With the high Danish reputation for research and development in all branches of acoustics, this Master education in Engineering Acoustics attracts students from all parts of the world.
Graduates of the Engineering Acoustics programme are envisaged employed by companies, local or national authorities and research centres involved in:
• Hearing aid systems, telephones and hearing protection
• Transducer manufacturing and audio system engineering
• Sound and vibration measurement equipment
• Civil engineering and architectural design and consulting
• Design and manufacturing of machinery, plants and transportation vehicles
• Engineering consulting in noise and vibration control
