MSc in Wind Energy

Wind power is a very successful technology with steadily increasing importance. Wind energy installed throughout the world generates the equivalent electricity need of 47 million Europeans. And this is just the beginning. In 2020 wind power can deliver 12% of global electricity demand, create 2.3 million jobs and make a substantial contribution to reduction of the CO2-emmisions.

With a wind energy programme from DTU, you get an education based on the world-leading competences in the heart of the global wind power development. The education is based on absolutely front-knowledge and technology, combining the scientific research and knowledge of DTU and Risø with teaching and guidance from a large number of associated experts and researchers from the industry. As a world-leading university within wind energy technology, DTU has been engaged in wind energy research and education since the 1970'ies and has offered a dedicated MSc education in wind power since 2001.

The DTU wind energy MSc programme

With a wind energy programme from DTU, you get an education based on the world-leading competences in the heart of the global wind power development. The education is based on absolutely front-knowledge and technology, combining the scientific research and knowledge of DTU and Risø with teaching and guidance from a large number of associated experts and researchers from the industry. As a world-leading university within wind energy technology, DTU has been engaged in wind energy research and education since the 1970’ies and has offered a dedicated MSc education in wind power since 2001.

The programme in Wind Energy is offered in close collaboration between the Department of Mechanical Engineering (MEK), DTU Electrical Engineering, the Department of Informatics and Mathematical Modelling (IMM), and the Wind Energy Department at Risø National Laboratory.

Analyze, design and develop wind energy systems

The programme focuses either on electrical or mechanical aspects of wind power and power system integration, and it is possible to obtain a cross-disciplinary knowledge on a wide range of technologies of wind power.

The aim of the MSc programme in wind energy is to give you a general understanding of wind energy and a deep insight and knowledge in technologies related to wind energy which qualifies you to analyze, design, develop and operate wind energy systems.

With an education in wind energy, you are qualified for employment in the rapidly growing international wind energy industry and related sectors. You get the possibility to contribute to the global development of the field in a wide range of aspects, and you will have a wide range of possibilities of employment, e.g. within technology providers such as wind turbine manufacturer and subcontractors, energy companies, utility companies, developers, consultancies and research companies.

Furthermore you can supplement your knowledge base with courses within e.g. aerodynamics, wind turbine construction, control, prognosis, and optimization.
