Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Huawei’s German Research Center in Nuremberg invite highly motivated graduates to apply for a 3-year industrial PhD scholarship starting in November 2019 or soon thereafter.

DTU ELE group is globally recognized for the excellence of its research, innovation and scientific advice on advanced switch mode power supplies, very high frequency (VHF) power supplies and renewable energy power applications, as well as wireless charging system.

Responsibilities and tasks
 
To contribute to the development of Huawei Power Conversion Technology Laboratory, which plays an important role in designing and developing power converters and control systems for applications such as Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), Photo Voltaic (PV), Electric Vehicle (EV), and Embedded Power in Huawei Network Energy Business Unit. Embedded Power includes ac-dc and dc-dc power converters, power ranges from several Watts to kilo Watts, and the most challenging things are high efficiency high density, cost effective and low static power consumption. The research project covers 
  • Power semiconductor device selection and characterization, power packaging design, converter topology, magnetic components design and optimization, and system level performance analysis.
  • Designing/Updating tools for multi object optimization platform.
  • Hardware design and testing of novel converter mockups in the R&D laboratory environment
  • Documentation of research activities, as well as publication in international conferences and Journals.
Qualifications and Requirements 
Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.

Any candidate who:
  • has good grasps of multiple power circuit topologies for AC-DC and DC-DC;
  • has good experience in magnetic components design and optimization;
  • is familiar with power semiconductor devices selection and characterization or power packaging;
  • has good experience in PCB schematic and layout;
  • is familiar with one or some of the following simulation tools such as MATLAB & Simulink, PLECS, PSpice, Simetrix, Circuit Studio, Ansys(Maxwell, Q3D), and Altium;
  • has good experience in making laboratory prototypes, debugging and testing power electronic circuits;
  • is target-oriented, structure thinking, eager to learn new things and ready to think outside the box;
  • is able to use communication skill in English at a good level;
will be considered as a candidate with favorable background.  The candidate with highly self-motivation and enthusiasm, and is able to work under a great tension would be preferred.

We offer
The candidate will be employed by Huawei Technologies Düsseldorf GmbH (Nuremberg Research Center) and will at the same time enrolled as a PhD candidate at DTU – Department of Electrical Engineering. DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. The salary will be agreed upon with Huawei. The position is a 3-year Industrial PhD project with the aim to be employed in Huawei Technologies Düsseldorf GmbH (Nuremberg Research Center) when the project is completed.
